Pinkert was a Jewish undertaker in the Ghetto. He set up a large funeral service with several branches. Owing to the high mortality rate, his business flourished. Pinkert's clientele were the rich, able to pay for his services. But he was also associated with the underground. His men who were allowed out of the Ghetto gave the activists a hand on many occasions -sending mail through for example- up to and including the Insurrection period. A certain number of Pinkert's employees managed to escape from the burning Ghetto via the sewers.
